Hi Gwyn

We have a very special colleague and friend who was recently diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. She only told us this week. On Monday she underwent a double mastectomy and the prognosis is not good. Unfortunately, our colleague didn't have income protection, trauma or medical insurance, so it really made us all think really hard about our situations. Our colleague is going to have some terrible financial battles ahead because, like us, she is self-employed and has a mortgage.

I'm so glad I'm insured for every eventuality. Home, contents, mortgage, life, trauma, medical, car. Even though sometimes it feels like I'm paying a lot, this situation has brought it home to me that I did the right thing having them in place, because you just never know.

I know that I were in her position, I'd be eligible for a $50K payout which would more than see me through until my income protection kicked in. Or something like that, I assume? I definitely want to be in a position where I can just focus on recovering, rather than worrying about money.
